Barely There Sandals Trend

Barely There Sandals Trend

Are these sandals dated? This was the question I asked the sales associate as I starred at the single sole classic Manolo Blahnik Barely There Sandals on the counter in front of me as I weighed on whether to get them. I took the plunge and decided to purchase since, I deemed them classic enough. Moreover, they did remind me of the strappy sandals that Carrie Bradshaw would wear (here). This was seven years ago at the height of super high platform sandals trend.

After the acquisition, the sandals were worn once with a traditional African attire to a Nigerian wedding. They were not very comfortable but I felt chic in them. Earlier this year, I debated on selling them, but little did I know that the Barely There Sandals Trend would be hot for Spring Summer 2019 and they do not appear to be leaving anytime soon. Brands in the high street and high end brands all have their own versions of this very same sandals. They even come in a square toe version.

The Barely There Sandals trend have made strappy sandals all the rage. The sandals often feature a nineties minimal silhouette with cross straps across the toes. I suspect the reason for the resurgence of these strappy sandals is due to Nineties nostalgia that has been having a moment in fashion for a few seasons. Nineties footwear is having a bit of a moment particularly in footwear with the block heels, mules and strappy sandals. I’m glad I kept my strappy sandals because it has enabled me to take part in a trend another time around.
