When it comes to my personal style, I enjoy a throwback. This happens to be one of the reasons I continue to be inspired by moments from my past. Sometimes inspiration comes to me in the form of plain old nostalgia from my childhood. My Dr. Scholl’s Original Collection Sandals are a perfect example of that. Dr. Scholls’s Original Collections Sandals were known as Dr. Scholls exercise sandals in the 1970s. They may be familiar to you from Sex and The City since Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw donned a candy pink pair on an episode.Well, these sandals are familliar to me because they happened to be my mother’s favorite when I was just a little girl. They are memoralized in a picture of my mom in front of our Arkansas apartment wearing a red mule paired with a red and navy striped T-shirt and Denim carrying my baby sister while I, a toddler in tow holding her hand. Upon my family’s return to Nigeria, my mother still wore them and I vividly remember she owned a neutral tan pair then. A few years ago, I ran across a pair while thrifiting and all those memories came flooding back, then I decided to hunt down an original pair in my size on Ebay. Asise from the sandal’s retro flair, the best part of the sandals I must have to say is the comfort.
Luckily for all of us, Dr. Scholls has re-released the iconic excercise sandals under their originals collection, for an introduction to a new generation. Dr. Scholl’s original collection sandals are a minimalist’s dream with its sleek understated look, that features a leather strap over a contoured footbed on a wooden sole. Also check, out the cool PVC version from the Dr. Scholls x Urban Outfitters Collaboration. The understated design makes it very a versatile shoe that may be worn lots of ways. I wore my pink pair with my colorful floral H&M off-shoulder dress that giving all sorts of marimekko vibes. You will be the coolest gal in the room if you can pair these sandals with a fancish cocktail midi frock for a summer soiree.
